PCAs provide non-medical, hands-on assistance and companionship while following the client’s individualized care plan and respecting household routines.

This role is ideal for professionals who are reliable, patient, and committed to delivering consistent, person-centered care.

Key Responsibilities

PCAs may provide support based on the client’s plan of care and assigned shift needs, including:

  • Assist with activities of daily living (ADLs) such as bathing, grooming, oral care, dressing, toileting, and hygiene
  • Provide mobility support and fall-prevention awareness, including standby assist for walking and safe movement within the home
  • Support safe transfers and positioning (bed-to-chair, chair-to-toilet, repositioning) using proper body mechanics and approved assistive devices as directed
  • Assist with meal preparation, light cooking, and hydration reminders per the care plan
  • Provide medication reminders (non-clinical; as permitted by policy and care plan)
  • Offer companionship and supportive conversation to reduce isolation and support emotional well-being
  • Perform light housekeeping related to the client’s immediate living area (tidying, dishes used during shift, taking out trash, linen changes)
  • Assist with laundry and organization tasks connected to the client’s daily routine
  • Support transportation/errands as authorized (appointments, pharmacy pick-up, grocery trips), including safe entry/exit assistance
  • Observe and report changes in condition or safety concerns to the supervisor/office promptly
  • Document services provided according to agency standards (paper or electronic)
  • Follow infection prevention practices and maintain client confidentiality (HIPAA)

Client Populations & Settings

PCAs may work with:

  • Seniors needing personal support and companionship
  • Adults recovering from illness or surgery
  • Clients with mobility limitations or chronic conditions

  • Specialty populations as assigned (non-clinical support only)

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent (preferred)
  • Ability to pass background screening and meet onboarding requirements
  • Reliable transportation and valid driver’s license (if required for field assignments)
  • Strong communication skills and a professional, respectful demeanor
  • Ability to follow care plans and agency policies consistently

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior home care, personal care, or caregiving experience
  • CPR certification (or willingness to obtain)
  • Experience supporting clients with dementia, fall risk, or mobility challenges
  • Comfort using mobile apps or electronic visit verification (EVV)
  • Bilingual skills (a plus)
